The Art and Skin Report

$

Many many many many many moons ago I has a idea (don't remember if I got the idea from what someone here said or not) to come up with a bi-yearly report on the state of the skinning community and digital artists (it was supposed to be timed with the GUI Olympics aka whatever it is called since the Olympics actually notified Stardock to stop calling it 'Olympics")

Life got in the way and as far as I got was maybe like 200+ artists featured but I never published it. I also had a front/f...

First let me say I have loved Object Desktop since 2003. I have bragged about, and promoted it thru my IT Department where I worked. My purchase went off without a hitch, even after purchasing a second product "ThinkDesk".

But now it seems that Stardock has so many corporate client, that maybe the "little people" don"t count quite as much. I really hope I am mistaken and there is support tech working on my case as I am typing this "plea" out.

Thank you!

http://nhpr.org/post/sriracha-maker-says-factory-will-remain-california

In short, people have been complaining that the fumes from this factory are causing health problems. The owner is threatening to relocate.

"Sriracha hot sauce maker Huy Fong Foods has been tussling with the city council of Irwindale, Calif., near Los Angeles for months now over whether the factory's spicy smells harm its neighbors. There's been legal action and suggested fixes, but also pleas from other cities ...

I have an updated Lion skin and when I open windows explorer, the treeview is black. I need to move my cursor over the black area to see the folders and items in the tree view.

Where can I go in SkinStudio to fix this problem?

Editing the Tree view and explorer sections did not help.

Prof Floyd Romesberg and colleagues have been working towards this study result since the 1990s.

They had previously shown how the new bases - known as d5SICS and dNaM, or X an...

The daughter of one of my former co-workers, who is 6 I think, just started posting Let's Play videos on Youtube. This has to be the funniest thing I've seen. The video opens up with "Welcome to Minecraft. Today I will show you how...to burn a dog."

Just keep it clean if you decide to comment. Her parents monitor their kids account and won't hesitate to contact Youtube.  Not that I'm implying that there is someone on thes...

OK…it’s the RC. Almost ready for release (will supercede 2.6.33).

What’s new?

1. The selective sync option is now displayed during setup if files stored on Dropbox exceed 10 Gigabytes.

“The main idea behind the new feature is to provide users with options to select only necessary files for synchronization if they want to, either to speed up the synchronization process, save bandwidth, or avoid that one of the partitions on their computer system runs out of free di...

H.R. Giger, creator of the art of “Alien” has died.

  H. R. Giger, the Swiss surrealist whose work includes the art that gave us “Alien” has passed on at age 74.

He studied Art and Design in Zurich and his work basically explored the relationship between the human body and machines. He termed his style “biomechanical”, and it was eroto-macabre, as well.

The cover art for “Brain Salad Surgery” illustrates that well.

He shall be missed. Rest In Peace, sir.

With pretty much all the themes for WindowBlinds, the tabs in new firefox are unreadable. A few days ago my firefox got updated to version 29, and it has major interface changes. So now I wonder is this a theme problem, or a firefox problem, or windowblinds problem?

And how to solve this.

This is what I mean with 'tabs are unreadable':

This same problem occurs with numerous other themes.

I am using:
Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64
WindowBlinds 8.04 (025 - Windows 7 E...

Sucky programming languages vs. good ones

The biggest "industry standard" programming languages of today by far are languages like C++ and Java.  And let me tell you - THEY SUCK.  You couldn't pay me enough money to program in either of them (and I've been offered quite a bit).  Either language will rot your brain to use it.

VERBOSITY

Consider a program which writes "Hello World" to the screen.  Here it is in Java:

public class HelloWorld {

    public static void main(String[] args) {

Aero Colors theme on Windows 8

I have WindowBlinds 8 installed on a Windows 7 and a Windows 8 Update 1 machine.  I see the Aero-based themes on the Windows 7 machine but not the Windows 8 machine.  Why is that?

Does anyone know of a theme for WindowBlinds that comes close to emulating what Aero looks like on Windows 7?  I'd like to get Windows 8 to look as close to looking like Windows 7 as I can get it to.  I like what Aero was and how it looked.

Downloaded adni 18's WB Albedo 09 and wanted to comment on the skin. It also came with a skin for Object dock but the .dockzip was empty, no docks. I used  Izarc to open it and it said it was extracted to the Objectdock library but when I looked all there was was an empty folder. The WB and walls are fine but what happened?

Has the Santa Maria been found?

Mr. Barry Clifford may have found the Santa Maria. The ship was lost off Haiti on its last voyage in December, 1492 when it ran aground on a reef.

The really interesting part of the story is that Mr. Clifford found the wreck back in 2003, but didn’t realize its significance. He found some ballast stones and a ship’s cannon. That cannon was misclassified in 2003. Two years ago, while researching the cannons in use during Columbus’ time, he awoke in the middle of the night with ...
