Stardock has several apps under $5 that are designed to make Windows 8/Windows 8.1 easier to use and to restore lost features such as the Start menu.  Below is a quick overview of each app and what it can do to enhance your Windows 8 experience.

Start8®
The start menu in Windows 8 was removed, and in the 8.1 update, Microsoft brought the start button back. Unfortunately, their start button DOES NOT bring the Start Menu with it, it launches the Windows 8 Menu. Start8 returns ...

curious about rating specifics

I'm curious how the rating system actually works. What appears to be the case with the initial rating given is 10 stars for master (for sale) skins and 6 stars for all others. One has to have the minimum of apprentice rating in order to rate skins. That's about all I really know.

I've heard that "master skinners" ratings are given more weight than other people. What does actually mean and what is the weight given?

Why can't the authors rate their own skins?

Martin Brinkmann, the owner of gHacks is a very skilled and responsible reviewer.

He reviewed Fences 3.0 on 5/20. Therese were his conclusions:

“There are two types of computer users out there when it comes to the desktop of the PC: those who keep it in pristine condition and don't put any files or shortcuts on it, and those who use it as the main location for downloads, shortcuts, files and folders.

You have probably seen desktops in the past that overflow with i...

When Bruce Wayne is viewing the computer files that he stole from Lex Luthor, there is an interesting cursor that he is maneuvering on the computer screen. Has anyone seen that cursor before, or do you think it was created for the movie?

RAM requirement doubles for W10 x32 machines

Windows 10 will require 2GB RAM (minimum) to run on x32 machines starting this summer.

The RAM requirements for x64 machines is 2GB and won’t change.

What this means is that OEMs will have to put at least 2 GB on every x32 machine they sell if they intend to put W10 on it. Older machines which are owner upgraded with lower amounts of RAM (i.e 1 GB) will still run, but slowly.

This change will happen with the next major update (”Anniversary Update”).

Content aware cropping coming soon to PhotoshopCC

Now, and in the past, when you straightened the horizon of a photo, or cropped it, annoying white triangles were generated which had to be cloned to fill, or significant areas of your photo would be lost when Photoshop put the new borders inside the pre-crop image to avoid those white areas.

Now, the same technology which is used in the patch tool, content aware move/extend tools and spot healing brush will be part of the crop tool as well.

Here’s how you will be able to us...

I just upgraded to the new version of Fences and I now cannot move any icons from one fence to another.  I noted a number of prior postings regarding this issue, none of which appear to solve the problem.  I checked and I do NOT have locked checked.  I rebooted and that did not fix the problem.  Looking for help from support. Thank you.

Why We Need More Bang For Our Buck

First off, I haven't been able to afford to bang since I don't know when.

However, this isn't just about me and my non-existent love life.... the average Joe is struggling to make ends meet.... and I'd know cos I'm average and my end hasn't met anything since Moses was a lad.

The thing is, if corporations can't/won't give pay rises without significantly hiking up prices, and government can't reduce taxes without hitting us elsewhere, we need more bang ...

What happened to Global Warming?

Now my pool is just opened and still not warm enough to swim in

I'd like some global warming back...

Object Desktop Manager

My Object Desktop manager just did an update on start-up.  It now shows Décor 8, Modern Mix and theme manager, two of which were specifically for Windows 8, now are compatible with Windows 10?

They were all listed at the bottom under Not Compatible with Windows 10. Just thought I would let people know, before trying to install these under Windows 10. If its not  supposed to be that way, maybe someone at Stardock could look into it.

I have an idea for 3.11. (oops, Freudian slip)

Similar to WB 10 and Start 10, allow user the option to apply a background and/or texture to each fence.

Also, if possible, allow Fences to be skinned by WB 10 skins. (as an optional feature that can be turned on or off by the user)

People will hit me, but.....

Hi,

How do I get the skin to completely skin Windows Explorer?  I am using WindowBlinds 10 on Windows 10 and Windows Explorer window the "File Computer View" Ribbon is never skinned.  I have tried a lot of skins (mainly LightStar's and default Stardock ones that come with the installation) which have Windows 10 support and screenshots in WinCustomize look great but it never works on my system.

TIA!
