Are antivirals worth it? Researcher says ‘No’.

OK…most of the possible exploits found and described by Joxean Kotek (COSEINC Singapore based security firm researcher) are pretty exotic and would need real experts to design bugs for, but some really aren’t, and worse…even when told of the bugs only a couple of companies bothered to ask how to fix them and only one (ESET) did so nicely. Apparently they expected him to supply the fixes free.

“At the SyScan 360 security conference in Beijing earlier this mo...

WinMerge is a great freebie…for both code monkeys and regular users. It undergoes regular updating, as well. Let’s say you’re working on a project and then have to work on something else…you come back after some time and download the latest project or file version and want to see what’s changed…or, you want to sync versions. Same for code – you get the idea. You can see more with its features, below:

CryptoLocker Encryption Broken–Want Your Files Back?

A quickie, but a really happy one for some!

You all remember CryptoLocker…the ransomware that encrypts all your files and only after paying do you get them back (maybe)? Well, while it's possible to remove the virus with standard antivirus software, and thus stop the infection spreading any further, the encrypted files remained encrypted.

Well, have I got great news for you! Turns out that some of the key servers used by the Cryptolocker scammers had been intercepted by the...

I can't figure it out, but randomly some windows are automatically being "pinned" to always be on top. It's kind of maddening when switching between windows and one out of nowhere decides to be pinned.

As pressure mounts to raise the wages of fast food workers, advocates may want to take note that such wage increases eventually pass a threshold where it makes financial sense to simply invest in automation. As Grocery Store cashiers learned, these jobs are not a given. We are all competing not just with each other but with robots.

One of the primary reasons that the gap between the rich and poor has increased so much in the past 20 years has been the rise in IT.  Once we purcha...

Since there are members of the community who use/used iolo and System Mechanic, I’m posting an email I received from them. This is the warning which I received from Iolo:

“It has come to our attention that entities with no affiliation to iolo technologies, representing themselves as "System Mechanic," have been contacting both iolo customers and members of the general public claiming that they have been alerted to computer "errors," "trouble signals,&...

I really don't go to the theaters much anymore, but there's always certain exceptions to that.  Star Wars  and Star Trek movies come to mind.

So of course the next Star Wars movie is definitely an opening day watch, are there are other movies you are really looking forward to?

Is there a way to have a feature added to deskscapes to put customizable PC info on the desktop.

PC name; IP address info; hard drive info; and have it stay on desktop when Deskscapes cycles through wallpapers?

Today I received yet another call from the toll-free number that has been calling me on and off (sometimes multiple times in one day) for several months.

I had answered a call from that number during the first month's assault on my digits (after 4 or 5 unanswered attempts) and determined they were a 'third-party' calling on behalf (supposedly) of my carrier.  They asked if I was satisfied with my 'plan' and if it 'met my current and future...

What's the last movie you saw?  Doesn't matter if it was at home or at a theater.

Last one I saw was Captain Philips.  I thought it a pretty good movie, especially since it was based on real events.

Hi all!

I created new desktop page, where i mainly use mostly folder portals for conveniance purpose. Everytime i log in to Windows 8.1 (especially from locked pc), my pages and fences are all messed up. When i switch between pages, fences do refresh and everything is ok.

Is there any solution to this problem, since it is annoying to do this every time PC is unlocked?
