FTL? No, but there might be a way to avoid the limit. Meet the IXS Enterprise-110

You’ve probably seen the story. Many are hoping NASA gets the funds to probe (pardon the pun) this idea.

Einstein proved that there is an absolute limit to velocity (the speed of light in a vacuum = c ).

However, what if a field (a warp field) could be generated which would compress space ahead of the vessel and expand it behind the vessel, by generating a “warp bubble” around the vessel.

So? Well, while the speed of light remains as is, space itself can be c...

AMD catalyst 14.6 beta - troubles??

Went to run the Starswarm test last night, and found out the regular line of catalyst drivers doesn't have mantle included. You need to run the 14.6 beta version to have mantle enabled.

So far I have done a basic google search and found plenty of people in both camps, running great and having trouble. So basically I'm just looking for a bit of anecdotal evidence from a crowd who presumably plays a lot of 4x games, both from Stardock and others, as do I.

People will hit me, but.....

After the latest windows update this evening, Window Blinds would no longer allow Windows 8.1 to complete the boot up process.  All I would get is a black screen.  After booting to safe mode and changing Window Blinds to the default theme could I get Windows 8.1 to complete the boot up.  After I got Windows to boot up, I changed my theme back, then none of my programs would run including Photoshop CS6 and Office 2013.  I had to change the theme back to default.  Anybody ...

New to Win 8.1 pro - recommendations?

As title says, just started running windows 8.1 pro for the first time. So far along with Start8 and Fences, I am loving it. Anyone have any recommendations for other software?

I have looked at ModernMix, but so far I'm thinking if I don't find myself running any of the "Modern" apps, that will be something unneeded. So far I haven't been running any, but being this new to 8.1 I am not sure if I am going to end up getting them foisted upon me, whether I want them or not.

Jim Keays, the frontman for 60' and 70's band, The Masters Apprentices, has died afrer a battle with cancer, he was just 67 years young.

During their reign at the top of the Aussie music scene, the Masters Aprentices produced many great hits, including Turn Up Your Radio

It's not the best recording, but not too bad for 1970.

Tonight (technically tomorrow morning) at 12:11 am (EDT) there will be a full “Honey Moon” on a Friday the 13th in almost 100 years. This one is special because the full moon also coincides with perigee so, it’ll appear very large on the horizon. Add to this mix the June summer solstice and an itty bitty dust in the air…et voila a honey colored (amber) moon. Don’t miss it…it won’t happen again until 2098! How do I create ExplorerFrame.dll navigation buttons?

I'm making a Windows 7 theme, and as a flat, metro-inspired theme, it's not very complex. With that said, I couldn't find any ExplorerFrame.dll's from other themes that would match this one. I'm trying to make my own explorer buttons, but it's apparently more complicated than I thought. I know how to extract and save the bitmaps from the dll and everything. The issue is actually creating the images themselves in photoshop. I don't know how to keep some parts of the bu...

Yup. 59 (fifty nine) vulnerabilities patched for IE. I have no words.

What can I say except Read about them here: https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/ms14-035 or here: http://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-59-internet-explorer-vulnerabilities-patched-in-june

There are at least 2 critical patches for each IE version plus additional ‘important’ ones.

There are also game updates for MS Surface Pro 2.

Enjoy.

Who doesn’t like Malwarebytes (besides the cybercriminals)? So what does it do? It protects apps and browsers from exploits.

It’s been tested, but only in Malwarebytes sponsored studies. Malwarebytes states it defended successfully against”:

“Nuclear Pack, Angler EK, Infinity EK, FlashPack EK, Magnitude EK, Fiesta EK, Grandsoft EK, Sweet Orange EK, Styx EK, RIG and Gondad.” – gHacks

Issues with IconPackager

Hi guys, running Win7 HP 64-bit and I'm having a mare trying to work with IconPackager. First off, the Settings section seems useless, whatever options I tick or untick nothing changes, for example in Settings - System Settings - Include Icon Sections I have 4 options ticked and yet my menu never changes, showing 7 options at all times. Secondly, the icons I applied have recently started to show artifacts, as if they're low resolution icons. This didn't happen before and I'm not ...

Cryptowall Trojan

I recently was blessed with a user who was fooled by an email about a package and tracking.  The email of course had nothing to do with a shipping company, but contained Cryptowall, a variant of the Cryptodefender trojan.  And it was methodical.  After basically locking them out of all their databases for a day while it did its business, it popped up the obligatory message about all the files being encrypted with an RSA 2048 key, and if you did not give them $500 in bitcoins (that...

I have had to de-install WindowBlinds 8.05 after these latest updates from MS.

Issues:

Windows would not boot.

Frequent Explorer crashes.

What I already have tried.

I de-installed WindowBlinds and startup problems and explorer crashes ceased.

I downloaded the latest WindowBlinds 8.05 installer re-installed WindowBlinds rebooted and the same problems returned.

I have WindowBlinds 8.05 removed from my system now and it will stay that way until the problems wi...
