The weekend is just about here, so how about a quick re-cap on some skins and themes that were submitted this week to WinCustomize?  Sounds good to me!

Photoshop is as intimidating as hell. I spent the longest time just looking at the interface and closing it. Then, Shaunna (mrs_starkers) put up a thread, and the rank amateurs went wild. This started me learning. My envy of Po’Smedley’s and Skinhit’s abilities to create icons, walls and crazy shops (and some friends who wanted to try as well), kept me going.

Some like Gimp more, others want to learn the industry gold standard. Photographers might want Lightroom more than Photos...

So, you’ve done your due diligence and despite all you’ve done, you’ve been hit. It happens.

The thing about your Security software? It’ll clean out the virus/Trojan, but it won’t fix the damage the malware has done to your system when it took over various functions and rendered them inoperable.

So what can you do? Format and reinstall Windows, or remove the malware and try to fix all the functions rendered inoperable.

Now, instead of the laboriou...

Since we’re spending this month celebrating 15 years of skinning WindowBlinds, I wanted to find out what was the most popular download on WinCustomize.com.  From the best I can tell and confirm, Vista Plus Version 3 comes in with over 900,000 downloads since it was released in 2006.

Vista Plus Version 3 by adni18

It’s a little funny a Vista skin has been one of the most downloaded, but as some of you might remember the glassy look was really popular and many skinners created a bun...

Window title bar and system icons too small at high dpi

I have a new MacBook Pro with retina display that I use Windows 8.1 on. I have downloaded WindowBlinds but every skin I apply has the same problem - tiny system icons. These are the icons in the title bar (eg window minimize, window maximize, window close), also the icons on the bottom right in the notification area of the task bar, and also the right arrow icons in the Start menu (I am using Start 8 to get a proper Start menu going).

The tiny size affects programs like Firefox - the top titl...

Request: Toss windows beyond visible screen area when using desktop extender program such as GiMeSpace

WindowFX function request:

I sometimes use GiMeSpace desktop extender with the Stardock windows customization software:

http://gimespace.com/gms3d.html

and I would like to be able to remove the 70% off screen limit to WindowFX momentum dragging

so that I may toss the windows beyond the visible screen area into the effectively unlimited desktop space

made accessible by GiMeSpace...here is a simple "film the screen" video I made that shows the general idea:

Current status:   SUCCESS.  "my search dial .com" successfully removed from firefox / PC.

I thought I was downloading Nvidia program, got My search dial 'tool bar.' Bad rep from WOT, and nasty redirects.  Really don't want it.  Cant get rid of it.  I used revo installer, OK.  Also revo uninstalled Firefox (browser it was on).  Including cookies and registry items.  Reinstalled firefox from firefox site.  My search bar is there, aga...

Free Photoshop Action for 'Intelligent' High Pass Sharpening

Almost anyone who has processed images has come to realize that the best way to do it is as the last step in the chain of changes to the image before publication. Also, most realize that the best way to do it is with the High Pass filter (Filter>Other>High Pass), and then changing the blend mode to Overlay, Soft light, etc. on a smart object nondestructively.

The problem though is that it’s laborious. It’s best done selectively to certain areas only, since applying one rad...

Saving a wet phone or tablet

It happens to everyone (or almost everyone). Your phone/tablet gets submerged, or a significant amount of water lands on it. There are water proof phones and cases, but you don’t have one…

Step One:

Turn it off ASAP!

Don’t argue. Don’t think. Just do it as fast as you can. You don’t want anything to short out.

Step Two:

Open the battery compartment. Take out the battery and SIM card. Mop up whatever water/fluid you can get to (use a Q-tip ...

ObjectDock disappeared and can't make it appear again

I have the free version of ObjectDock, Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64bits.

I used to have ObjectDock Always on Top, with Autohide.

Since yesterday, it´s not appearing anymore! I can see the ObjectDock.exe process running in the Task Manager, using 8,468KB of RAM, but objectdock is nowhere on the screen. I've tried killing the process, starting it again with the usual icon in the Start menu, restarting and everything, but it never shows up. I'm not sure what else to do ...

WindowBlinds Skin of the Week: Delta Quadrant

I’ve been working on some projects so I’ve been scarce on WinCustomize the past few days, but when I came back Delta Quadrant was the first new skin I saw, and wow!  I’ve said it before that dark skin are hard to pull off, but fortunately the talent we have here at WC comes through.  The design is just way cool, and offers are dark and light version to choose from.  2of3 did an excellent job with this and definitely deserves recognition as the WindowBlinds skin of the week.
