Are PC's Dying?....Of Course Not..

There has been some posts made in the past concerning the relevance of PC's in today's society. I've always been a believer in the fact that PC's will be around for a long long time to come. Some of the things we do/create , require the power that only a PC can deliver. The great folks over at How-To Geek have posted a great article that addresses this question. Give it a read and post some thoughts of your own here.

Will The Weather Be Unbroken?

Well, I have bad news. As of today, all my weather widgets and gadgets have stopped working. Worked fine yesterday. Today, nothing. They just sit there, won't refresh, can't change location, no forecast.

Philly0381 alerted me to the situation this morning. If anyone knows anything, or has working weather, please say so here.

I'm guessing we've lost the Weather Underground feed.  Bummer.

For most of my adult life, I’ve suffered from what I euphemistically have described as melancholy. And like most people, I mistakenly considered it to be a “mood” as opposed to a serious physiological issue.  If I just did X, then I’d feel better.

When the issue began to seriously affect my life, I readily accepted “advice” that included “appreciate what you have”, “look on the bright side”, “try to reduce stress from your life”, “don’t sweat the small stuff”, etc.

However,...

Now who’s going to control the net?

On March 14th, a disturbing news item slipped by unnoticed. We were all entranced by the Malaysian Triangle. I don’t think JFK’s and RFK’s assassinations together with the late President Reagan’s attempted assassination garnered so many news hours…

So what’s the big deal? Supposedly American stewardship of the Internet was always supposed to be temporary (really?). The U.S. government announced plans to relinquish Federal control over ICANN. This...

OK I have been using KK Menu with OD since it was Shareware. Last week something on my system changed and KKMenu gives me an error about being unable "Could not register window class:Invalid window handle". I reinstalled and the same thing. So I wanna switch over to Stacks.

I have tried Stacks Docklet 1.0 & 2.0 and Stand Alone Stacks. The stacks work in both. But I don't get Icons for the shortcuts in my stacks. I just get a White Document icon or a Windows Exe default icon.&nbs...

Just Built My Sister Her 1st Brand New PC

I feel really good today because I could ring my sister and let her know that all the parts we'd ordered had arrived and that I'd almost finished building her very first brand new PC.  After years of my hand-me-downs and 2nd-hand rigs that were more trouble than they were worth sometimes, and being repaid a wad of money she was owed, she bit the bullet and splurged out $AU 1100 for the build and another S250 on a mobile rack and a 4 bay Vantec caddy just like mine.

The build is a...

I seems that DeskScapes for Windows 8(.1) doesn't work after

applying the update 1 Microsoft has leaked. Maybe you guy's

are aware, but as it is, it breaks the application at this time.

Is there an update or an fix for this yet?

For the moment the background is just black. Looks a bit sad.

edit:

Nevermind. Just found the new beta and it seems to fix the problem.

Please remove this post, thanks.

Anyone know of a good context menu editor?

So for once, I installed a program that added a useful shortcut to the context window! The problem, it only shows up in a handful folders. I tried to find a decent editor for it but I want to be careful since it by definition is going to edit the registry, and several seem to be full of malware anyways. If anyone has one that works well and is definitely clean, please let me know.

Hi

On Wednesday morning I placed a order (3074467) for 30 copies of Start8. The confirmation screen states:

Order number: 3074467
Status: This order has been queued for processing by customer service. You will receive an email within one business day, at which time you will be charged and your order will be fulfilled.

As I'm in the UK, I'm reaching the end of the THIRD business day (Wed, Thu, Fri) and there has been no apparent progress on the order.

The dumbing down of software

I remember back in the 90’s how people complained that software was too complicated and had to many options and menu items. The software industry responded, but…I’ve noticed over the past few years that software is increasingly being dumbed down for the end user to the point of being ridiculous..

For example, when I launched IE for Windows 8 for the first time on my wife’s computer, the basic menu bar (with “file”, “edit”, view”, tools&rd...
