“Free Windows Forever” sounds great, but don’t bank on it.

TheVerge recently published an article about MS considering making its Windows Phone OS and Windows RT available for free to OEMs.

That question has been occupying my thoughts lately due in part to two recent Forums posts, and the ensuing comments. I held that due to Google’s business model, Android and Apple’s ‘Updates’ policies, Windows would probably follow suit.

Preston Gralla has been an astute observer and author (more than 40 books and countless articles and reviews...

Are PC's Dying?....Of Course Not..

There has been some posts made in the past concerning the relevance of PC's in today's society. I've always been a believer in the fact that PC's will be around for a long long time to come. Some of the things we do/create , require the power that only a PC can deliver. The great folks over at How-To Geek have posted a great article that addresses this question. Give it a read and post some thoughts of your own here.

Beware the NSA [Naughty Spy Agency]

Yeah, so what's next... invasive proctology exams to discover it was just a bagel you hurriedly ate at the airport just moments prior to going through the scanners, or perhaps covert cameras hidden in your toilet?

Either way, it seems to me that the NSA is going well beyond "reasonable means" to protect US citizens when it infects millions of PCs worldwide to 'so-say' seek out threats.  I mean, what does it stop short of... decompiling peoples bodies looking for nanotech that...

Since we’re spending this month celebrating 15 years of skinning WindowBlinds, I wanted to find out what was the most popular download on WinCustomize.com.  From the best I can tell and confirm, Vista Plus Version 3 comes in with over 900,000 downloads since it was released in 2006.

Vista Plus Version 3 by adni18

It’s a little funny a Vista skin has been one of the most downloaded, but as some of you might remember the glassy look was really popular and many skinners created a bun...

Running an i7, win 7 home premium, GTX 670 NVidia, using SONY 30” HD LCD TV for monitor.  Desktop and program s display with a bit being cut off all four edges.  It’s like the desktop is a little too big for screen, so it centers it and leaves a bit to run off outside the screen area.  Consequently, I can’t see info that’s along the edges.  Web activities are not affected.  I have been to MS, Tom’s Hardware, eHow, and MajorGeeks.  Nada ...

This little gem is just what the Doctor ordered for those who repair family PCs/laptops as well as being a great portable tool on a stick if you’re traveling.

First of all, it’s free, it launches from the systray, and gives you organized access to everything organized on the USB device and the computer. Further, you can add items to the menu easily.

Here’s what it looks like:

Amazon Prime Price Increases to $99. Will You Still Use It?

Amazon has announced that the yearly price for Amazon Prime will increase from $79 to $99 starting this year.  Amazon Prime gives you free two-day shipping, no minimum order size, unlimited streaming of movies/TV, and more.  It has been $79 for many years now, and I’ve subscribed myself for quite a few.

Now I don’t think $99 is a terrible price increase.  It’s most likely still a good value if you purchase a lot of stuff from Amazon.  For me though, with the addition of ...
