Interesting…Newest OS Usage Statistics

0

Interesting article at Neowin.

Looks like XP usage is dropping quickly: Down 3.38% in a month. I didn’t see sample size stats, though.

By far, the highest usage for XP is in China, with a significant persentage of those pirated. Recently, China asked MS to extend XP support. That deserves a “Chutzy Award”.

HI,

I've got several text word and excel files in my fences and whenever I open such document and save it after working in it the document is placed outside the fence on my regular desktop.

Is there anyway around this issue?

SKS8 Bug

Could someone tell me why the Menu Item Text (1) settings control the Menu Bar (Notepad, Etc.) (2) and the Menu Bar Options Text (2) settings? Why can't they be set seperately?

Things like this are extremely annoying, and there are lots of areas in SkinStudio 8.01 like this. I would gladly rip SkinStudio apart and report them all, but I don't get paid to do that, Stardock personnel do. Thank you.

Oh, and while we are at it, why is there no image count showing in the Menu ...

OD2 loses location of 64-bit programs

I use a zoomer dock with icons for folders that drop down as lists when I click on them. Some programs won't run from the dropdown list. For instance, with Comodo Internet Security I receive error msg

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Comodo\Comodo Internet Security\cfp.exe

The specified path does not exist

Check the path and try again."

Of course, that path doen't exist, because Comodo installs in C:\program files\Comodo...etc, not in C:\program Files (x86)!

If I click on Folder:Applicatio...

Blurry docklets

I have the most current version of object dock on a couple different W7 machines.  I'm noticing some docklets are blurry, or the image look almost doubled.  It gets crisp when you hover over it.  I'm guessing this is just a simple setting, but I'm not sure which.  Any idea?

Slow and laggy

I expirence laggy desktop managment in Windows when WindowFX 5.12 is enabled.

I don't have the fastest SSD on the market although it runs Windows 7 smooth, both boot and everything else runs really smooth and fast.

I don't know what is the bootleneck here making my WindowsFX expirence laggy, so much noticable that I prefer turning it off.

Is it the low read/write speed of the SSD or something else in the hardware that isn't optimal for WindowFX?

Or is it something in Wind...

Property Foundations, Part II

This is the beginning of my long-awaited extension of my popular earlier blog, which focussed on the concept of property as associated with physical things.  That blog was not intended to promote a particular version of property, although it has probably been taken that way by many readers.  I will try to maintain some degree of neutrality here, as well.  I certainly have my own opinions, positions and implicit agenda, but the standard to which I try to adhere is what support...

How to opt out of the new anyone being able to email you on Google+

Well, Google wants to know more and more and push their ads so their latest is (while possibly useful for some) a tad over the top for me.

I’m referring to the possibility (if you are on Google Plus) for anyone who has you in his circles to email you even without knowing your email address. To me this just opens too many possible nasty doors. Granted, if you don’t wish to answer, the sender will never know your gmail address. That won’t stop the spam, though (nor possible phish...

CursorFX Plus and Windows 8.1

Guys, I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro and CursorFX Plus 2.11.

CFX runs fine, but on the desktop, when I touch the screen, rather than use the mouse, the cursor ceases to be skinned, and the only way to get it skinned again is to reapply a skin with CFX.

This is an AIO Dell Inspiron One Desktop PC.

4 GB Ram, Pentium Dual Core E5400.

Since Windows 8 and touchscreens are becoming more and more widely used, I assume this shouldn't be happening?

Not sure whats going on here, but for some reason I can not activiate window blinds themes anymore.  I can down load and install and even mess with the settings and apply the theme.  Although it goes thru the process to apply the style, it never does.

I seem to be stuck with a generic Windows theme regardless of what I do.

Also installed on my PC are:

Books - Where the bad guys win

I recently read 4 of Joe Abercrombie's books, and really enjoyed their "grit" and dark humor.  It got me thinking about if I've ever read a book that had a main POV character which was completely evil and wins, or had "good" main character(s) that in the end, utterly fail.

Can anyone think of (and recommend) any books published like that?

P.S. If you like Abercrombie, GRRM, or fantasy in general, I highly recommend The Broken Empire trilogy from Mark Lawrence.

The "I like Windows 8 (and why)" Thread for people who like Windows 8

So, since a lot of posts around here are complaining about Metro / the new Windows 8 style I figured that I'd make a thread for people who actually appreciate the new things with Windows 8 (and don't say that it's terrible because of metro).

One of the really great things about Windows 8 is the Refreshing ability. I like it because it reinstalls Windows but keeps your personal files. This is useful for non-tech-savvy people.

The thing I like with refresh is the RECIMG.exe comma...

Clover tabs compatibility

I would really like to take advantage of Clover tabs in my Explorer windows; but when I install it, it blatantly adds this ugly blue WinXP titlebar to my windowblinds skin (my skin has dark glass/aero blur transparent titlebar effect).  Is compatibility with clover even a possibility; or would it involve skin images that my WB skin doesnt have?  I have this gut feeling there would be no way to do this unless WB adds this functionality AND requiring WB skins to add extra images to suppo...

Intellectual Property Law? plus another Question...

Is the Material Protected Under Intellectual Property Law?Is the Material Protected Under Intellectual Property Law?

You should always start with the presumption that, if the creative work you want to use was first published after 1922, U.S. copyright law protects it. There are only two ways that a work published after 1922 is not protected: Either the owner of the work made a mistake (such as failing to renew the copyright) or the work does not meet the minimum standards for copyright protec...
